I love this sentiment. #colourourdaynz is right up my alley ❤️ I have a @citizenwomenstore Mustard Category Top to wear and the kids are planning out their colourful outfits. It gives us an easy and age appropriate way to talk about and remember the people who were lost last week. They take a gold coin with them to school who’ll donate on their behalf (I’ll give my donation to them too) @colourourstory will you be doing #colouryourdaynz as well? Our wee family is at the other end of the country, yet so many have lost their lives in the #Christchurch Mosque tragedies today, that even being so far away, we know two people in our community who have lost loved ones. I can’t even begin to imagine...⠀ ⠀ As I’m writing this there have been 49 people confirmed dead. That’s 49 people who won’t be coming home to their families and friends... that we know of so far 😢 ⠀ ⠀ And because our country and communities are so small, we do all feel it - we do all feel connected in some way, to the people directly impacted today. So I hope that we will also try to be connected enough to support each other to show kindness and compassion in this situation and going forward.⠀ ⠀ I could never have imagined home feeling so unsettling. You just don’t expect it here.⠀ ⠀ Today’s events have made me even more passionate about my current photography project around bias, equality and diversity in the workplace (and the world in genera!)⠀ ⠀ We can only hope that we ALL work to making the world a better place for our children. And that somehow because we ARE such a small and compact community of a country, we’ll find something in today’s monstrous events, that will impact on our views around inclusiveness, equality and diversity for the better, and not worse.⠀ ⠀ #diversityandinclusion #newzealand 📸: @rubyalicerose
This is the first still flower photo I did that was shared with anyone. I became more interested in stills after this assignment and studying Edward Weston. I got an A-⠀ ⠀ Someone told me the other day that ‘They’re not hard though, they’re just flowers. They’re not as hard as people cause they do what they’re told.’⠀ ⠀ The styling - prep - detail - I put into my stills, takes longer than most single shots I’ve taken of people.⠀ ⠀ For this I used a black background to stop the light reflecting back. Then I had to wire it to get it to stand how I wanted and trim bits off. It’s standing. Not laid flat, you lose the depth. It’s not attached to the plant. It’s too bushy to isolate a single stem. My tutor said I should have trimmed the bottom branch off and I would have got an A. But it’s all subjective anyway right? ⠀ ⠀ And I still like flowers 💐 ⠀
The kids have done their first week back at school and kindy for the year and it’s just hit me that I only have one year of this guy left before he goes to school 🙀⠀ ⠀ Also if you need me... I’m still missing the holidays (a client just said I’m the first mother she’s heard say that 😂😂) so have moved my office for the last hour to a rest area with a lookout 😁

We took the kids into @aucklandcbd the other weekend to see the @rainbowwarriorship when she was here and historical visit aside, one of the things that ironically keeps playing over in my mind was this amazing Astro turf on the waterfront! ⠀ ⠀ It’s taking up far too much headspace because on one hand I think man, this stuffs amazing. I need to replace my soggy grass with this. But then it can’t be very good for the environment either. It just looks so amazing and easy to care for though 😂 ⠀ Somebody help me out. A burst of happy for today. I love how ‘Lolly’ pops on the wall 😁 ▫️ The vase is a very simple but beautiful piece by our talented neighbour @richard_naylor ▫️ It takes pride of place in our lounge and I swear I find different flecks of colours in it every time I look closer! ☀️
💝 🎀 💝 🎀 Meet Joan and most of you know my daughter Scarlett Lilly - that’s me in there too. 🎀 Photos of these two girls are taken almost 100 years apart. Worlds apart. 🎀 There’s feelings of wonder, familiarity and contentment when looking at these, like lookin at a photo of any child. 🎀 Wonder at who this little girl will grow to be. Familiarity at the innocence you remember being this age. Contentment when you wonder what and who will bring her joy. 🎀 We know about some of the joy that came to Joan. Who she became. And we’re excited to see how life will shape for Scarlett. 🎀 But who’d have thought that the little girl in one of these pictures would get breast cancer? 🎀 Joan survived after having a mastectomy. 🎀 And when Serena from @accintelligence asked for donations for her Pink Ribbon Breakfast, I thought yes - here’s a breakfast I’ll donate to giving her a @foxandlillynz ‘Mila’ chain of hearts print. 🎀 What she said really resonates with me. 🎀 Serena has two daughters and wants to see breast cancer elimated before they grow up. 🎀 She knows several women who have been affected, and has invited one of them (Joan Hook) to talk about her ordeal at her event today being hosted at The Winter Pavillion in Auckland’s Domain. 🎀 Her co host Pamela Elliot has also had a small procedure, and sells bras so she knows the disfiguring effect it has on a woman’s self image and self esteem. 🎀 For me breast cancer is something I think about often. You see, Joan was my grandmother and not the only female in our family to have been affected. What’s your favourite colour / combination? 🤔⠀ ➖⠀ I’ve got some new prints in the pipeline and would love to know. ⠀ ➖⠀ I love colour. All the colours! So much so that I have to buy black, white and neutral everything for the house so that my pops of colour really POP💫 and I go through phases of having favourites.
